Cthulu Chord Presets

Tech Specs

Category: Effect Presets

Effect: Cthulhu

File format: .FXP/FXB (Standard VST format)

Genre: House Techno Trance

Courtesy of user DavisGalvin on the Xfer forums:

I went through and transcribed a lot of keys and scales and saved them as presets into Cthulhu.

The list of scales is as follows in every key, C all the way up trough Bb.

  • Major
  • Natural Minor
  • Harmonic Minor
  • Dorian
  • Phrygian
  • Lydian
  • Mixolydian
  • Locrian
  • Whole Tone
  • Jazz Minor

The chords of each scale/key are ordered in Cthulu as follows:

  • Triads
  • Sevenths
  • Secondary Dominants
  • Other Chords
  • Suspended Chords

With the exception, of course, of the Whole Tone scales, which only has the Triads.

Instructions for how to add them to the preset menu are in the ReadMe that comes with the zip file.

Hope this is the kind of thing you guys were looking for! Fee free to e-mail me with any questions.

-Davis

Can someone help me? where do you put the preset folder so that the VST can see it?

first find library folder (mine appears when I click the Hard disk icon on my desktop - Mac), then under that folder you have Audio folder then plug-ins folder then VST folder. Under the VST folder you will find a chtulhu presets folder (it should be already there after installation complete).

Very cool, but question:

How would I access just the triad chords for a certain key (for example C minor). Everything seems to be 5 notes or so

I'm late to the party. Thanks again for doing, otherwise I had found the chord generator pretty pointless and useless if you couldn't play chords in key!! This is very helpful. I think someone else had already asked this, but looking at your instructions below, how do you just access the triads for example? All the chords are constructed with 5 notes. I couldn't find any other "secret" way to initiate that order/feature. Thank you. :)

The chords of each scale/key are ordered in Cthulu as follows:
Triads
Sevenths
Secondary Dominants
Other Chords
Suspended Chords

Hi, for everyone that's asking how to "enable" triads, after you have loaded a bank/pack, DON'T PRESS anything and in slots 1 and 5 click the little lock icon so that the first and 5th note will be not played, there you go, you have the triads, thx for the pack! Nice organized!
