I recently bought a Simmons e-kit, including it’s electronic brain, the SDS-8. It’s from the mid 80’s, and I’m pretty sure, once you hear it, you’ll immediately identify many songs of the period that feature it.
Since using the hardware within a DAW is impractical (the SDS8 has only trigger inputs, but no MIDI), I created a sample kit from it. I called it SDS-HEXACUBE and I would like to share it with you for free.
I sampled all the factory instruments, plus 11 additional instruments, with 6 velocity layers, and 4 round-robins per layer. All in all, it’s 384 samples. From this, I created an EXS24 sample instrument, that can be used in Logic Pro out of the box.
