Taxicab Records - Compressors

Tech Specs

Category: Reason Refills

Devices: The Combinator

Format: Combinator Patch .cmb

Type: Effect

Special Instructions

All you have to do is create an Effect and load any of the compressors in your Reason session.

I recommend the use of this Effects directly from the output of your device (Sampler, Dr.Rex/OctoRex, Synth) and into your Mixer channel. The Tone Comp is highly recommended on the mixer's stereo bus, since it's meant to affect the harmonics of all the mix.

You can also use them as parallel compressors, by using them as inserts on the auxiliary section of the mixer.

Have fun!!

This Refill includes 4 real-gear-inspired compressors... all of them designed to work as Effects in Reason.

1.- 76 Compressor-Limiter : I was inspired by the classic UREI/UA 1176 Blue Face Compressor. This rack includes a fully functional and well callibrated compressor, including: Input knob, Output knob, Attack knob, Release knob, and the 4 Ratio level buttons with 4:1, 8:1, 12:1 and 16:1 settings that you can also combine to get to a extremely squashed compression with a maximum Ratio of 40:1.

2.- Tone Comp : This device was inspired on the BBE MaxCom, BBE Sonic Maximizer and some functions of the Crane Song IBIS. Whenever you need to restore or enhance the harmonics of any instrument or mix by choosing the song's tone. Usually the encoding for Reason Refills can take out the original harmonics. This tool is meant to restore them. Simple and useful. This rack includes a Harmonic Exciter section, where you choose the song's tone and set the ammount of harmonics to be heard, plus a very easy to use compressor. The tone selector was very carefully crafted being a precise quick reference to the frequencies that need to be afected in order to enhance the song's arrangement and sound, plus the harmonic exciter pushes up the gain on the fundamental frecuency, plus the most hearable harmonics on it. It also includes a button in order to add extra and sub-harmonics to the mix.

3.- Equalization & Over Easy Compression : Inspired by the classic DBX Over Easy Compressor, this rack also includes a 3 band EQ, so, basically, you have a pretty cool Channel Strip. You can go from a very dynamic and clean sound to a very squashed compressed signal, without loosing punch. This also includes the use of the wheels on the left: A stereo widening tool and a Low Pass Filter. Both can work incredibly well on automation.

4.- Tape Compression : This rack includes a fully functional and well callibrated compressor, plus a tape saturation knob that adds warmth and a very precise distortion. You can go from a very dynamic an clean sound to a very squashed compressed and dirty signal, without loosing punch and clarity. This also includes the use of the wheels on the left: A low/high frequency boost and a brickwall limiter that can push the loudness a bit further. Both can work incredibly well on automation.

All Combinator Effects work from reason 3 and above.
